As the 2024 show season concludes, De Bortoli Wines proudly reflects on a remarkable year of accolades, further solidifying its reputation as a leader in the Australian wine industry. With an impressive haul of 28 trophies and over 80 gold medals, De Bortoli has continued to raise the bar for excellence, earning global recognition for its diverse range of wines.
Noble One Botrytis Semillon, a name synonymous with excellence, once again stood out. The 2021 Noble One secured multiple trophies at prestigious shows, including the 2024 Cowra Wine Show, 2024 Perth Wine Show, 2024 Hobart Wine Show, and 2024 Rutherglen Wine Show. These accolades reinforce Noble One’s reputation as a benchmark for sweet white wines.
De Bortoli’s renowned fortified wines also enjoyed remarkable success. The NV 8 Year Old Fine Tawny was crowned Best Fortified Wine at the 2024 Cairns Wine Show, while the NV Black Noble added 5 additional gold medals to its impressive collection. Additionally, the 2020 Deen Vat 5 Botrytis Semillon took the 2024 Australian Inland Wine Show by storm, claiming three prestigious trophies, including Best Wine of Show, Best Sweet Table Wine, and Best Wine of The Riverina Region.
From King Valley to Rutherglen, De Bortoli’s sparkling and rosé wines continued to impress. The NV Prosecco Rosé was celebrated as Best Sparkling Wine in Show at the Cairns Wine Show, while the 2024 Rutherglen Estate Rosé claimed the Best Rosé Trophy at the Perth Royal Wine Show and the Riverland Wine Show. Further solidifying its global recognition, the 2023 Rosé Rosé earned the Rosé Trophy at the National Capital Wine Show, cementing its place among Australia’s finest rosés.
De Bortoli’s newly released wines also made an impact within a year of their release. The 2021 Woodfired Grenache won the Best Red Wine Trophy at the 2024 Heathcote Wine Show, 2022 Handcrafted Heathcote Shiraz claimed the Shiraz Trophy, and the 2022 Ancient Soils won the Alternate Red Blends Trophy, both at the National Capital Wine Show. These accolades reflect De Bortoli’s expertise in crafting bold, expressive wines that embody the unique characteristics of their regions.
Yarra Valley put its best foot forward with the 2022 Yarra Valley Single Vineyard A8 Syrah and the 2022 Riorret Lusatia Park Pinot Noir both receiving 97 points by the 2025 Halliday Wine Companion, classifying them as exceptional wines of major trophy standard.
Reflecting on the year, Managing Director Darren De Bortoli said, “These awards celebrate the passion and dedication of our entire team. This year’s success is also a fitting tribute to Julie Mortlock, our recently retired senior winemaker. Julie’s exceptional contribution to the industry was honoured with the ‘Riverina Legends’ Award at the 2024 Riverina Wine Show.”
Additionally, all De Bortoli wineries and vineyards are now accredited with the Sustainable Winegrowing Australia certification – a significant milestone that reflects their commitment to sustainable practices. Combined with a diverse portfolio of award-winning wines from regions such as the Riverina, Yarra Valley, Heathcote, King Valley, and Rutherglen, De Bortoli Wines looks ahead to a future filled with even more innovation and success.
