De Bortoli Wines is proud to introduce One Line, a new wine range that embodies the rich winemaking history of Rutherglen and the endless possibilities it brings. For over 150 years, Rutherglen has been synonymous with bold, flavourful wines like Muscat and Durif. However, beneath its historic reputation lies a hidden gem for fresh, European varietals. The One Line range, debuting with Pinot Grigio and Fiano, highlights this side of Rutherglen’s story, showcasing the region’s ability to craft vibrant, modern white wines.
De Bortoli Wines has embraced the region’s natural strengths, working with the unique terroir and climate to craft wines that are both expressive and true to the region’s character. The gravelly, alluvial soil of De Bortoli’s eastern vineyards, combined with the consistently warm weather, have provided the perfect foundation for the One Line range, which is also accredited with the Sustainable Winegrowing Australia certificate. The 2024 One Line Pinot Grigio is delicate yet refreshing, offering notes of pear, almond, and citrus with a savoury, elegant finish. The One Line Fiano, meanwhile, brings vibrant acidity and flavours of citrus and hazelnut, making it an ideal pairing for creamy dishes or seafood. The journey continues in early 2025 with the introduction of One Line reds like Sangiovese and Tempranillo, expanding the range and further exploring the diversity of Rutherglen's winemaking potential.
Rooted in tradition but forward-looking in its technique, De Bortoli Wines honours Rutherglen’s rich winemaking heritage with One Line. The One Line story is inspired by the concept of one line art—where a single, continuous stroke creates an entire image. Each wine in the range represents a chapter in an ongoing journey, symbolising the endless possibilities of Rutherglen winemaking.
De Bortoli Wines is proud to be part of Rutherglen’s story, contributing to its vibrant future while celebrating its rich past. With One Line, De Bortoli Wines invites consumers to explore the versatility and excitement of Rutherglen—one sip at a time. Taste the country, and join the story.
One Line Pinot Grigio
Varietal: Pinot Grigio
Vintage: 2024
Region: Rutherglen, Victoria.
Winemaker: Marc Scalzo - Chief Winemaker, Rutherglen Estate
Vineyard: Our Pinot Grigio is grown at the De Bortoli Melville’s vineyard on the eastern edge of the Rutherglen region. The site is east facing and produces Pinot Grigio with delicate varietal definition and flavours.
Tasting Note: The colour is pale straw. Inviting aromas of fresh pears, citrus, with subtle almond notes on the nose. This savoury wine has delicate flavours of pears, almonds, and grapefruit, with freshness and bright citrus notes. The palate is textural and savoury, with a delicate balance of acidity and fruit weight on the finish.
Winemaking: The Pinot Grigio was fermented in stainless steel tanks under conditions that retain maximum fruit flavour. It was fermented at cool temperatures to accentuate the delicate pear and almond varietal flavours. After fermentation the wine was left on the yeast lees in the tank, which were stirred every two weeks to build texture in the mid palate. The wine was left on yeast lees for 2 months before being prepared for bottling.
Food pairing: A perfect accompaniment for fresh seafood dishes such as a kingfish ceviche.

One Line Fiano
Varietal: Fiano
Vintage: 2024
Region: Rutherglen, Victoria.
Winemaker: Marc Scalzo - Chief Winemaker, Rutherglen Estate
Vineyard: Our Fiano is grown in the De Bortoli Shelley’s and Melville’s vineyards on the eastern edge of the Rutherglen region. Both sites have an interesting gravel, clay, and alluvial soil mix, and produce Fiano with a tight acid backbone and delicate varietal flavours.
Tasting Note: The colour is pale straw with green hues. On the nose the wine has hints of white flowers, citrus lift with some subtle dry herb and hazelnut aromas. The palate has a citrus line, is rich and textural, and finishes with a focused drive. The barrel fermented component of the wine adds complexity, warmth and provides spice and hazelnut on the finish.
Winemaking: 65% of the Fiano was fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks under conditions to retain maximum fruit flavour and drive. The other 35% was fermented in older French oak puncheons to add complexity and texture. 20% of the wine was fermented using indigenous yeast. After three months in oak the two parcels (tank fermented and barrel fermented) were blended and prepared for bottling. Stirring and malolactic fermentation were avoided to retain the natural acidity of the wine and so as not to interfere with the wine’s bright zesty fruit profile.
Food pairing: Pair with a creamy chicken pasta dish or seafood.
Wine Analysis: Alc/Vol: 13.0%, pH: 3.31, TA: 6.49g/L
