SLOW COOKER MULLED WINE

  Wine Cocktails

SERVES 4-6

Ingredients:

  • 750ml bottle of DB Winemaker Selection Merlot
  • 250ml pulp-free orange juice
  • 60g caster sugar
  • 3 whole star anise
  • 2 cinnamon sticks, plus extra, to serve (optional)
  • 5 cardamom pods
  • 5 cloves
  • 1/4 tsp fennel seeds
  • 3-4 strips orange rind
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • Pomegranate seeds, to serve

Method:

  1. Combine the orange juice, sugar, star anise, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and fennel seeds in a small saucepan. Bring to the boil over high heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Transfer to a slow cooker. 
  2. Add the DB Winemaker Selection Merlot and orange rind to the slow cooker. Cover and cook for 4 hours on high heat. 
  3. Pour into heatproof glasses and serve with slices of fresh orange and pomegranate seeds.
