SERVES 4-6
Ingredients:
- 750ml bottle of DB Winemaker Selection Merlot
- 250ml pulp-free orange juice
- 60g caster sugar
- 3 whole star anise
- 2 cinnamon sticks, plus extra, to serve (optional)
- 5 cardamom pods
- 5 cloves
- 1/4 tsp fennel seeds
- 3-4 strips orange rind
- 1 orange, thinly sliced
- Pomegranate seeds, to serve
Method:
- Combine the orange juice, sugar, star anise, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and fennel seeds in a small saucepan. Bring to the boil over high heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Transfer to a slow cooker.
- Add the DB Winemaker Selection Merlot and orange rind to the slow cooker. Cover and cook for 4 hours on high heat.
- Pour into heatproof glasses and serve with slices of fresh orange and pomegranate seeds.
