Sustainability in Winemaking and Growing

At De Bortoli Wines, we are seriously committed to environmentally sustainable practices and have gone well beyond mandatory requirements, from water management, biological farming, and a careful overhaul of our packaging and waste management practices. The ultimate and achievable goal is to be a ‘Zero Waste Wine Company’.

What is Sustainability at De Bortoli Wines?

Over the past few years we have changed our thinking and our approach to growing grapes and making wine. The change is being driven by both philosophical and pragmatic factors but mostly by our desire to leave a legacy for future generations, an idea with resonance for any family-owned company.

Climate change has brought with it an urgent imperative to adopt environmentally sustainable practices. Our future lies in looking after the health of our soils and plants and carefully managing our precious water resources.

Our Sustainable Business Practices

REDUCED CARBON FOOTPRINT

Many consumers are not aware that most of the carbon dioxide that is emitted during the wine production process is actually during the transportation of the wine itself!

The fact that cask packaging is lighter than the equivalent bottle, helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions when it travels from a vineyard to a store, which is ultimately better for the environment.

BPA & BPS - FREE

Did you know that the majority of cask wine packaging is recyclable? In addition to that, the bag found in cask wine is BPA-free & BPS-free, so if you’re in the market for an environmentally conscious wine, De Bortoli cask is the way to go.

EXCELLENCE IN SUSTAINABILITY

De Bortoli Wines is committed to excellence in sustainability by being at the forefront of environmental practices that have been recognised and awarded by many prestigious local and global institutions. In 2016, De Bortoli Wines received NSW’s first Sustainability Advantage Platinum Project certificate, in recognition of outstanding environmental leadership and commitment to innovation.
