Even animals agree that trees are great!

Despite the rapid biodiversity loss that our world is experiencing driven by human activity, not all is lost as our world has a remarkable ability to adapt and recover quickly.

In 2016, researchers from Stanford University developed a way to estimate biodiversity based on tree cover. They found that adding a single tree could increase the number of bird species from near zero to 80. In practice, farmers can achieve a significant increase in biodiversity just by planting a few trees in their fields. The findings produced by this study could eventually be used in policymaking, by factoring biodiversity into land use decisions.
