Media Release, January 2024

De Bortoli Wines has earned its reputation over the years for its deep-rooted understanding and genuine appreciation of the Heathcote region. Positioned as a trailblazer in innovation, they consistently push the boundaries to craft wines that authentically encapsulate the region's essence.

Heathcote's Rich Winemaking History

Nestled within the heart of the Heathcote region lies a rich history of winemaking. Yet, it is the ancient soils that steal the limelight. The region's fame is firmly rooted in its remarkable red Cambrian soil, born over five centuries ago from the gradual decomposition of Cambrian volcanic basalt. The complexity of composition and depth in these exceptional soils offer a window into the history of our Earth. This prehistoric, rust-coloured soil imparts unique characteristics to the grape varietals grown here, capturing the true essence of the region.

De Bortoli's Ancient Soils

Meet the latest masterpiece from De Bortoli Wines – Ancient Soils, a heartfelt homage to the depth, beauty, and finesse that define Heathcote.

Crafted from Iberian grape varieties Tempranillo and Touriga, known for their ability to thrive in heat, these grapes yield wines that have a deep red hue accompanied by a vibrant purple rim. Each sip will envelop you in a journey of supple, plum-infused textures and integrated tannins harmonised with notes of dark fruits, spice, and violets.
