Emeri’s Garden: Where Magic Blooms

De Bortoli Wines 16/02/24

In the heart of Griffith, Australia's agricultural capital, lies a breathtaking wonderland known as Emeri's Garden. Stretching across 14 acres of land, this lush oasis is a labour of love nurtured over a decade by Emeri De Bortoli, the matriarch of the De Bortoli family.

Emeri’s journey began as a farmer's daughter but her role expanded far beyond the farm. With a lifetime immersed in the wine industry, over the years she acted as a crucial sounding board for her family, aiding in the transformation of her family’s winery from a humble winery to a household name in the global wine industry. Mother, grandmother, wife, daughter—she's worn many hats, yet at her core her true passion lies in the farmland, the earth and all things that it grows. It's this passion that led her to create Emeri's Garden, a memorial garden dedicated to her late husband, Deen De Bortoli.

The garden is a haven for native and specimen plants, dry river beds, stone walls, winding paths and even a native billabong garden crafted by Phillip Johnson Landscapes. But more than just a beautiful retreat, Emeri’s Garden is a call to action. It reminds us of the importance of preserving our fragile ecosystems and practising regenerative, sustainable methods to nurture our planet back to health.

Despite facing the challenges of floods and droughts, Emeri, now 85 years of age, tends to her garden daily, finding solace and therapy among the plants.  Emeri’s profound connection to nature began when she was young, roaming the bush near her home, climbing trees and shrimping in the canals. For Emeri, her garden is her passion project, a love letter to mother nature and its abundance. As Emeri herself puts it, "To me, gardening is the best therapy. When you're in the garden, you are concentrating on the plants, not anything else."

Emeri’s Garden inspired Moscato

The sweet, delicate scents of the garden inspired the Emeri’s Garden Moscato range, a delicious addition to the family’s ever growing portfolio. Often dubbed the winemaker's wine, Moscato is unashamedly simple and fun. It's the first wine of any vintage to be produced, boasting lower alcohol and a generous sweetness, thanks to a shortened fermentation process.

The Emeri’s Moscato range, comprising The Emeri’s Garden Moscato and The Emeri’s Garden Pink Moscato is all about sunshine and fun ocassions.

The Emeri's Garden Moscato with its pale straw colour and lively green tinge, delights your senses with freshly crushed grapes, a hint of musk, and a squeeze of lemon & ginger on the finish. Meanwhile, the Emeri's Garden Pink Moscato, with its pastel pink hue and hints of Pink Lady apples and strawberries dances on your palate. The range paris perfectly with appertifs or a fruit platter, authentically encapsulating the essence of Emeri’s Garden in a bottle.
