VINEYARDS

We believe wine should have varietal detail and be a reflection of site and season. Wine should have 'a sense of place'.

YARRA VALLEY

The Yarra Valley is one of Australia's premier cool climate wine regions. Located approximately 50 km north-east of Melbourne near the towns of Yarra Glen and Healesville, the Yarra Valley is recognised for producing some of the finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Australia.

The De Bortoli family cultivate three unique vineyard estates in three parts of the region. The Winery Vineyard at Dixons Creek, which is home to the winery, Cellar Door and Locale Restaurant, is in the Northern section of the Yarra Valley. The Abbey Vineyard at Tarrawarra is in the centre of the region and Lusatia Park Vineyard at Woori Yallock in the upper reaches of the Yarra River.

The family holdings  are managed by Leanne De Bortoli and her husband and Winemaker Steve Webber.

THE WINERY ESTATE - DIXONS CREEK

First planted in 1971, the vineyard is now planted to over 170 hectares of predominantly Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. In recent years, this has been joined by plantings of Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Nebbiolo and Gamay Noir.

The vineyard is managed by Rob Sutherland and the winemaking is run by Steve Webber, Sarah Fagan, Jono Thompson and recently by fourth genner, Kate Webber, all with the help of their dedicated staff.

Visitors can try many of the Estate and Single Vineyard wines at the Cellar Door and Locale restaurant.

LUSATIA PARK

Lusatia Park vineyard at Woori Yallock is one of the most iconic single vineyard sites in the Yarra Valley. It is planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

The vineyard was purchased in 2016 from the Shelmerdine family. It forms part of our plans to buy and establish iconic vineyards for the production of single plot fine wine.

The 18 hectare mature vineyard was first planted in 1985 and is a close-planted, north facing plot at an altitude of 240 meters. The soils are deep decomposed basalt that is quite rich in iron.

The vineyard is managed by Andrew Ray who has been a winemaker/viticulturist with De Bortoli for the last 5 years.

RIVERINA

The Riverina in the south-west of New South Wales is where the story of De Bortoli Wines began. Vittorio De Bortoli arrived in the region after migrating to Australia from northern Italy with little more than a few coins in his pocket. And though the flat plains and fertile red earth of the Riverina were completely different to all he had ever known, Vittorio together with his new wife, Giuseppina, made it their home. The winery at Bilbul remains our home and our heart to this day.

The Bilbul winery is the home of our world-renowned and award-winning dessert wine, De Bortoli Noble One Botrytis Semillon. First created in 1982 and made here ever since, it is one of the most successful and internationally award-winning wines ever produced in Australia.

KING VALLEY

The King Valley, at the base of the snowfields in Victoria’s south-east, has a fast-growing reputation for its affinity with Italian grape varieties. Our vineyard is a gorgeous 180-hectare site with three kilometres of King River frontage that we began planting in 1994.

The King Valley vineyard is one that the whole De Bortoli family cherishes and visits often, not just for the beautiful quality grapes we grow, but for the tranquil natural beauty of the property and the excellent fishing opportunities in the King River.

HEATHCOTE

Recently, the De Bortoli family purchased an 80 Ha vineyard in Northern Heathcote to supply some of the fruit for our Villages and Woodfired brands. It is mainly planted to Shiraz and in the coming 12 months we will be adding Grenache, Mourvedre andGrenache Blanc to the varietal mix.

We continue to work with several other growers from the region to supply fruit for our various Heathcote wines. Many of the growers have very good clonal material of many varieties which is quite exciting for the future of winemaking in the region.

Grenache, Mourvedre and several classic Italian and Portugese varieties all show terrific potential. Grenache in particular has us quite excited with its perfume and charm when blended with Shiraz and as a perfumed red wine by itself.

HUNTER VALLEY

De Bortoli Wines’ Hunter Valley Estate includes 34 hectares near Pokolbin, the gateway to Hunter Valley Wine Country. There is an onsite winery and barrel room at the main property and a cellar door building, open daily for tastings that highlight the variety in our range from across our Estates.
