Plant a tree day

National Tree Day is a day for all Australians to put their hands in the dirt and give back to the community. Sustainability is not a nice to have, it is a must have, and it is our responsibility to leave a positive footprint for future generations. This is why we have pledged over one hectare of land adjoining our Bilbul  property to regenerate as native bushland. We aim to do this by direct seeding 4000 seeds of species indigenous to the original creekline ecosystem in which the hectare is located. We chose this specific location as it is also good farming practice to have native tree lots and shelterbelts to provide a home for indigenous insects. And this is exactly what we did.

On Thursday, 30th July 2020, we planted the seeds with a purpose-built planter, towed behind a vehicle, into the native understory to grow. Now, all there is to do is wait. Once germination has occurred we will continue to monitor and report on the growth of these natives. To ensure revegetation, 150 stems/ha at least must be established and maintained for a survival rate of over 80% in the first 3 years. Our intention is to continue the vital revegetation process within this reserve (our ‘backyard’) annually on National Tree Day to ensure a thriving reserve for future generations to enjoy.
