"A more somber garnet color than some other sparkling Shirazes, with seemingly lower pressure and a more vinous character. Vanilla, leather and cherry notes finish close to dry. A very good, inexpensive introduction to the genre."

The base wine is fermented in tank and aged in used American oak barrels or in tank with oak staves before the second fermentation in tank before filtration and bottling under pressure - the charmat method. It has been excactly fashioned for its market; indeed, it's almost too good - light red fruits and the sweetness obvious but appropriately weighted. Buy it today, and drink it tonight.

"A relatively light, fresh style of sparkling Shiraz, with berries and hints of chocolate picking up just a touch of sweet vanilla on the finish."

"A bright, jazzy style of fizz, with an earthy edge to the raspberry fruit, persisiting nicely on the off-dry finish. Drink now."

Harvey Steiman, Wine Spectator, November 2010

"A relative newcomer, the Emeri is right on the money. Its perfume is plum and blackberries and sweet fruit balanced by a pleasant acidity. Will go with anything from cold chicken to Christmas turkey."

Greg Duncan Powell, Grazia Magazine, October 2009

"Here’s an attractive proposition: it’s soft, round and creamily textured with ripe, plummy flavours and a sweet finish enhanced by fresh, cleansing acidity."

"Bright colour; vibrant juicy fruit, pure blackberry and spice; juicy and fun on the palate, with a fresh and slightly savoury finish."

"There's been huge improvement in the De Bortoli sparkling wines over the past few years and the 'Emeri' label now deserves to be rated among the most reliable of our budget-priced bubblies. Here's more proof: a soft, round and creamy sparkling red with ripe plummy flavours and a clean, sweet though balanced finished."

Peter Forrestal, Quaff, December 2008

"Aromas of wine gums and violets with plenty of complexity and freshness on the rich, fruity palate."

"This wine is characterised by a lively mousse with dark cherry aromas and flavours. Quite sweet, it is nevertheless balanced by plenty of fresh acidity."
