Place: Gentle north-east facing slope, cooler than expected, early ripening, very aromatic site. Highly mineral clay loam over mottled yellow mudstone.
Viggers Vineyard is quite fine and is a little more rustic and savoury than
The Abbey (which is just around the corner on the same soil type).
Very pretty black cherry fruit, complex slightly rustic nose with a hint of
strawberry and clove. The palate is powerful with spice, earth and red fruit flavours that build in texture. Elegant finish with with fine powdery tannins which give good persistence. Pop it in the the cellar for 5+.

"Winemaking: It's harder to do nothing," reads the back label. They've certainly done nothing extremely well this time. Fresh cherries, violets and sinewy tannins.

"It's a wrenched-tight pinot noir and challenging as a result. Generally I'd argue that Australian pinot noir could do with more tannin and so here I am wondering whether I should be more careful of what I wish for. It has tangy orange-like acidity, good depth of dark cherried flavour, lots of chalky/earthy character and sound length. Whether or not it has enough oomph to support the tannin is debatable; though maybe im being a bit too 'new world' in my assessment. In any case it's an interesting wine, with a future."
