Yarra Valley Estate Grown Pinot Noir Rosé 2011

Region
Yarra Valley.

Appearance
Classic partridge eye pink.

Bouquet
Sweet lifted Pinot aromatics, hints of grilled nuts and marzipan.

Palate
Soft, textural and slightly savoury, gentle flavours with some good drying acidity.

Vintage Conditions
At last, some good rain during the growing season. A cool December and moderate January to March period kept natural acidity at good levels. Some harvest rain kept us on our toes with disease, but we know that the humid years give us some of the best quality.

Winemaking
Fruit is grown on three sites from our Yarra Valley vineyards. We include all of the pressings from each parcel as these are important for flavour and texture. The wine is fermented in old French casks using indigenous yeasts with a little stirring of the lees at the end. The wine is pale, textural and delicious - perfect for summer drinking or as an aperitif all year round.

"...De Bortoli make a variety of pink wines, including the Yarra Valley Estate Grown Pinot Noir Rosé. It is dry and refreshing, as a wine should be. It has delicate notes of strawberry and a lovely texture, too. It offers fresh acidity and nice weight, lending itself to an array of summer dishes. Make sure you have some in your fridge this summer."

Ben Knight, Weekly - Brimbank, February 2012

"Fragrant and delicate pinot characters. Bone dry, round and balanced, this is the perfect summer wine. Serve moderately chilled to preserve subtle strawberry flavours."

Jeff Collerson, Daily Telegraph, February 2012

"A dry and delicious, tuna-pink drop that smells of strawberry, rosehip tea, currants and spice. The soft, intense palate had loads of red-fruit richness, racy acidity, nice weight and a snappy, drying finish."

"Pink wine. Yes, I'm going to talk about it again. Pink wine is fantastic and incredibly varied, so stop turning your nose up at it. Whenever I drink pink wine, I pretend i'm in Provence. The baking heat, the cicadas, rosemary- and lavender-covered landscapes and lots of rosé. De Bortoli make a variety of pink wines, including the Yarra Valley Estate range rosé. Ben Knight, Weekly - Melbourne, January 2012

"Pinot noir is the star of this dry and delicious rosé. A tuna-pink colour sets the tone for smells of strawberry, rosehip tea, currants and spice, while the palate is soft and intense with loads of red-fruit richness, racy acidity, nice weight and a snappy, drying finish."

Matt Skinner, The Age, January 2012

Best Rosé
"Pinot Noir grapes are pressed and racked to 5 or 6 year old casks and with the trademark carelessness mentioned, then consigned to barrel with some pressings for 3 months and stirred every fortnight. The result is the classic pale onion colour in the glass with a freshness of cherry and strawberry aromas and savoury barrel characters that lend complexity. It taste’s of vital berry fruits with a classic textural mouthfeel and a touch of tannins before ending bone dry. It’s the juice that revolutionaries drink when they are conspiring to overthrow the status quo."

Patrick Haddock, Wining Pom, December 2011

91 Points
"The cool 2011 season has created an altogether savoury and food-friendly rosé of bone-dry precision and soft, supple, textural mouthfeel. Its tomato and dried herb notes will align perfectly with an antipasto platter or cold meats for Christmas lunch."

Tyson Stelzer, Wine Taste Weekly, December 2011

This slots in to the easy-to-drink category. I sat outside on a balmy night after a tough day at work recently and this was absolutely spot-on. It's a copper/salmon colour, dry and savoury, but with enough strawberry and floral flavours to keep you coming back for more.

Rick Allen, Manly Daily, December 2011

As a recent convert to rose, this bottle was something new. The wine appeared paler than I expected, more salmon than rosy. It was also savoury in flavour and dry on the palate. Confused, I gave up all pretext of trying to ‘‘taste’’ it and just shared it with a friend. And the result was good, an unassuming, delicate drop that should be shared on a sunny day.

Julie Hobbs, Geelong Advertiser, December 2011

"This is cherried and spicy with a hint of mandarin peel thrown in for good measure. The palate is pippy then slightly creamy before settling into a composed and assured finish. For a wine of such poise it’s decidedly easy to drink without any real thought."

Jeremy Pringle, Wine Will Eat Itself, December 2011
