The King Valley

The King Valley in north eastern Victoria is fast gaining a reputation for its delicious European style wines made from interesting Italian and Spanish varieties such as Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio and Tempranillo as well as established varieties Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Warm days and cool nights during the growing season provide ideal conditions for premium wine production. Soils vary according to altitude, slope and site characteristics  but deep red clay loams abound.Good drainage and fertility is encountered in most sites.

The De Bortoli vineyards cover 180 hectares along 3 kilometres of King River frontage where our staff can often be spotted fishing after a hard day’s work.


Light straw in colour with a green edge. Complex, faintly aromatic, fresh. Pear like fruit with nutty undertones. Clean but good texture and complexity, quite fine, gluggable!

Intensely varietal and delicate palate showing lifted citrus notes. The wine shows freshness and is balanced by fine acidity.

Red with good garnet edge. Complex, slightly rustic earthy aromas, autumnal, brooding. Savoury palate with good texture and length. Dreaming pasta!

Good varietal expression and full textural palate. Juicy and rustic, fine tannins and a slightly savoury finish.

Sweet dark fruit aromas with mint notes and understated oak. The palate is rich and vibrant with full fruit flavours and soft mouth coating tannins.
This wine was sourced from our King Valley vineyards. The palate displays rich berry and plum characters, soft rounded mouth-coating tannins and generous flavour.
This wine is from the King Valley - The region has high continentality (warm days, cool nights). Summer rainfall is common with tropical storm influence from the North which adds some humidity which is beneficial for wine quality.
Sourced from the King Valley, the vines are cane cut to partially raisin the fruit giving rich, savoury, spicy flavours, textured tannins and good length.
This wine displays rich berry characters from the Cabernet and ripe plum characters from the Merlot., soft rounded mouth-coating tannins and generous flavour.
Sourced from the King Valley in Victoria, this wine is ruby red in colour with purple hues and has complex fruit aromas of black cherry & raisins integrated with savoury charcuterie like characters, earthiness and rusticity.
