DBHV Vermentino 2010

Region
Lower Hunter Valley

Appearance
Pale straw in colour with lime green hue.

Bouquet
Refreshing pear and lemon citrus notes with some underlying spice.

Palate
A fresh, clean, crisp palate offering characters of pear, lemon pith, soft spices and a lingering slightly bitter almond finish.

Vintage Conditions
The season in the Hunter Valley for 2009 -10 saw above average rainfall with plenty falling in the Spring months. This provided adequate sub soil moisture for the Spring and Summer months. Good climatic comditions were experienced for the ripening and picking period. The Vermentino was picked once optimal flavour ripeness was expressed for this particular vintage.

Winemaking
The fruit was hand picked ( from our Murphy’s Vineyard ) once desired maturity was reached. The fruit was transported to our winery for immeidiate pressing. The juice was roughly racked post cold settling to stainless steel. Fermentation was carried out by selected yeast strains, this helped retain freshness and aroma.

James Halliday, Wine Companion 2012, August 2011

"It?s a time of experimentation in the wine industry, especially with white varieties more suited to warm climates than many widely planted here. Vermentino, a variety from Sardinia, is proving one of the most popular. De Bortoli is having success with it in the Hunter Valley: lifted aromatics, delicate savoury, nutty characters, a dry mid-palate and fresh zesty finish."
