WILD VINE PRESS REVIEWS

Wild Vine Cabernet Sauvignon Press Reviews

Wild Vine Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

"A full and flavoursome red, deep in colour, full bodied and with highly concentrated fruit. It also has the benefit of a few years ageing. The fruit was selected from mature, low-cropping vines and the wine was macerated on the skins at the post-fermentation stage to add complexity and structure. What's more, a few more years in the cellar isn't going to do it any harm."
Geoff Hawthorne, Central Coast Express-Advocate, 29 December 2006

"The Wild Vine 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon from De Bortoli Wines is deep rich red in colour and holds complex aromas with tobacco and macerated pomace-like fruit. This full and flavoursome wine has sweet blackcurrant and spicy oak flavours and a fine texture."
Liquor Watch, August 2006

Go wild!

"My new rule on budget drinking: choose De Bortoli. The company keeps coming up with sub-$10 wines with a lot more finesse than the price suggests. This one is medium-bodied and savoury with some spicy oak flavours and enough age to have tamed those pesky tannins."
Robin Powell, Who Weekly, 31 July 2006

Wild Vine Chardonnay Press Reviews

Wild Vine Chardonnay 2005

"Smells smoky and bacon-like. Palate is soft and complex, with a hint of peach and passionfruit. Developing well."
Winestate, River Region & Riverina, July/August 2007

Wild Vine Chardonnay 2004

"A well-made, fleshy wine - fresh, lifted and quite tropical with lots of ripe fruit and balancing acidity."
Winestate, Varietal Tasting - Chardonnay & Blends. April 2005.

"Wild Vine stands out as one of the best chardonnays less than $10 for its full, fruity flavour and smooth texture. It’s the sort of wine you might drink at any time, with or without food, and appears to be a successful application of the keep-it-simple principle. The Wild Vine Shiraz is similarly top value for money."
Paddy Kendler, Herald Sun, 21 December 2004

"One of De Bortoli’s largely unsung labels, but an absolute purler at the price. Enjoy the ample fruit flavour neatly stacked within a soft and well-rounded palate."
Paddy Kendler, Herald Sun, 22 December 2004

"Twelve months on, it still tastes of peach and apricot..."
Quaff 2005. Max Allen and Peter Forrestal.

"Lifted, toasty nose underscored by simple berry aromas. Oak-driven palate has great texture."
Winestate, World's Greatest Shiraz Challenge II, September/October 2007

"In the race to produce the best budget reds, De Bortoli has lapped the competition. This one has smooth, velvety shiraz flavours with subtle oaking and sophisticated aromas that recall much more expensive wines..."
Greg Duncan Powell, Sydney Morning Herald, 18 August 2007

"Hints of pepper and spice accent a rich berry nose."
National Liquor News, August 2007

"If you’ve a big winter’s-time BBQ on the horizon and you’ll be needing more than a few bottles of red to accompany those sizzling pepper steaks and jacket potatoes, consider De Bortoli’s inexpensive Wild Vine Shiraz.

This one’s got everything going for it in the value stakes: plenty of berry fruit,   varietal pepper and a touch of oak on the palate,... and it comes under a handy screw cap so there’s no need to keep hunting for the corkscrew while you’re suppose to be turning the steaks."
David Ellis, Your Weekly Wine Column: Wines & Liqueurs, 16 July 2007

"... an exceptional drop for one so young... lots of pepper and berries with generous fruits on the palate. At double the price it would be a bargain."
Michael Southern, Pittwater Life, July 2007
