De Bortoli Wines Pty Limited ... Australian Winemakers Since 1928

Noble One 1998 Press Reviews

"Not the first, but certainly the most successful Sauternes style made in Australia. All the flavour and richness of the Gramp's wine with the power knob turned right up to 11. Ageing in new French oak has added an additional layer of weight and complexity to this icon wine. Still the one."
Peter Bourne Australian Gournet Traveller Six of the Best , May 2001

"Fresh bouquet of lemons and limes with orange rind botrytis character and hint of tobacco. A clean, structured and well-balanced sweet palate. Lovely depth of fruit flavours nicely balanced by acid."
Winestate Annual Buyers Guide 2002

"Has been clearly the benchmark for Sauterne-style dessert wines. Semillon grapes; supremely sweet and concentrated mass of flavour. A little bit of oak and crisp acid completes the delicious marmalade and dried fruit mix."
Ray Jordan The West Australian Newspaper - West Magazine, Tuesday 3 July 2001

Noble One 1997 Press Reviews

"The leader of the pack. Some quibble about the degree of new French oak that shows in its youth (the newly released 1997, for example) but for layered complexity, this marque is hard to beat. The 1997 had nutty, toasty, cedary oak aromas with mixed peel and marmalade. The luscious palate was enlivened by a persuasive thread of fine acidity and the flavour is rich and profound. The oak was barely showing in the 1996, which seemed a finer style with butterscotch, smoky nuances, a rich chewy texture and powerful finish."
Huon Hooke Australian Gourmet Traveller WINE Magazine, February/March 2000

"This is Australia's premier botrytised sweet wine and it has never been better. The bouquet is tight and complex with peach, sweet citrus, tea leaves and spicy oak. In the mouth it's lush and sweet with smooth, long flavour, a tasty lick of oak and a dry finish."
Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Age Tuesday 2 May 2000

"Nice golden green hues. Well-developed nutty/toasty nose showing some lifted apricot and apple aromas mingled with botrytis characters. Luscious, rich and complex, the palate has great structure with lovely flavours of mandarins and marmalade."
Winestate, January/February 2000

"Gold color - very bright. Young and fresh with squeaky clean botrytis. White peach and citrus. Very sweet and jammy boiled fruit character. Very youthful, sweet citric aftertaste."
Peter Simic Winestate, May/June 1999

Noble One 1996 Press Reviews

"Since its debut in 1982 (which won more than 50 gold medals and 10 trophies), this has been Australia's premier dessert style wine. The 1996 continues the quality with its intense brandied orange botrytis flavours and delightfully long finish. These wines will develop an extra degree of complexity and mellowness if allowed to age."
Ken Gargett, Courier Mail, 7th April 1999

"Medium gold in colour. Broad slightly closed buttery nose with botrytis. Fruit mid weight. Excellent depth of flavour. Thick middle palate and clear botrytis lychee. Big, rich, sweet quinces and honeydew melon."
Peter Simic Winestate, May/June 1999

"Straw gold. Ripe tropical fruits. Again, pineapple botrytised fruit. Some honeyed fruit characters. Palate luscious and concentrated. Very long. Very good acidity. Lots of botrytised fruit."
Jon Osbeiston Winestate, May/June 1999

Noble One 1995 Press Reviews

"Once again Noble One was the top scoring wine in the Wine International's ten year on tasting for sweet wine with a score of 92 points. It was the only Australian wine in the segment and scored higher than wines from Sauternes, Alsace, Austria, Germany, South Africa and Canada. A lovely nose that is full of richly botrytic orange fruit, balanced by wonderful acidity."
Wine International, ten years on tasting, June 2005.

"The king of the stickies is unquestionably De Bortoli's Noble which is hailed as the world's best dessert wine after the highly celebrated French Chateau d'Yquem...it has breathtaking richness and light acidity that makes it a regular trophy winner at home and abroad."
Dorian Wild, City Weekly, 12th May 2005

Noble One 1994 Press Reviews

"It was with great pleasure to judge most of the sweet wines, and the 1994 De Bortoli Noble One was a joy to taste - very complex in the style of Sauternes, with créme brulée character and a pleasantly drying finish."
Lester Jesberg, Winewise, December 2005
