Montage Cabernet Merlot Press Reviews

Montage Cabernet Merlot 2005

"Decent easy-drinking style that has pretty good dark berry flavours and smooth texture."
Peter Forrestal, Quaff 2009

"Fruit-driven with ripe plum and cassis flavours. The faint sweetness showing on the medium weight body is balanced by some light dry oak, which holds the wine together. This is a good quality wine showing it can match it with those in the $15 price bracket."
Phillip Stubbs, Geelong Advertiser, 12 August 2006

"Montage is the next range moving up the De Bortoli pecking order from Sacred Hill. It follows that expectations are fairly high for the 2005 Montage Cabernet Merlot given the success of Sacred Hill Cabernet Merlot, although it should be remembered that the retail price is only about $9. The 2005 Montage does a reasonable job of meeting those expectations. It has sweetish plum and berry fruit, with oak adding to the flavour and complexity. It has enough weight to match a steak or roast lamb."

The Examiner, Melbourne, 8 March 2006

Winestate, Varietal Tasting, September/ October 2005

Montage Chardonnay Semillon Press Reviews

Montage Chardonnay Semillon 2008

"This is a Riverina white that has fresh sweet pea flavours and is clean and pleasant, if a bit too sweetish for me."
Peter Forrestal, Quaff 2009

“Bright and lively, the grassy/citrussy semillon component contributing substantially to both flavour and length; value plus.”
James Halliday’s Wine Companion 2009

Montage Semillon Sauvignon Blanc Press Reviews

Montage Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2008

"There's plenty to like about this white blend - and not just the price. It's ripe and peachy, soft and round, has a good mouthfeel and a refreshing finish."
Peter Forrestal, Quaff 2009

"Subdued nose with just a hint of tropics and a delicate floral lift. Crisp and defined in the mouth - very clean. Very tropical, with lovely silky-smooth mouthfeel."
Winestate, River Regions and Riverina, September/October 2008

"The palate is much better than the nose would suggest, with lovely mouthwatering, crisp, fresh, grassy, lemon zest flavours."
Winestate, Semillon and Blends Tasting, September/October 2008

"Perfumed, spicy nose leads onto a great lemon rind/honeydew melon palate that's crisp and dry."
Winestate, New Release Tasting, September/October 2008

"Fresh gooseberry and citrus. Delicate, crisp finish."
New Releases, National Liquor News, July 2007

"Well, the tastings for Quaff 2008 are in full swing: for the eighth year in a row the office is resembling a wine warehouse as Claire and her new off-sider, Nicole, battle to stem the tide. Claire has seen it all before, 'far too often' and is calm (well, fairly calm) but Nicole blanches each time she walks into the office / storeroom on a new day. I felt quite buoyant after Friday's tasting of the first batch of 28 sem sauv blancs. The best shone. Inspite of the trend towards higher prices, there will still be heaps of bargains at your favourite wine merchants into 2008. Some of the top performers from last year, Woodstock and Plantagent's Hazard Hill, are up among the bargain buys once again in this semillon sauvignon blanc category. De Bortoli's cheapie 'Montage' has moved up a notch adding consistency to outstanding performance and so underlying just why they were our 2007 Winery of the Year. This is a ripper: soft, round yet vibrant with intense ripe peach and melon flavours and a hint of spice and crisp, clean acidity on a finish which lingers. And the price! Need I say more."
