We are fortunate to have some of the oldest plantings in the Yarra Valley dating back to 1971, with varieties and sites that are genuinely interesting and worthy of release as single vineyard wines. The Chardonnay is minerally and lean, the Pinot Noir reaches new heights in potential for longevity, and some unique characters and tannins have been extracted from the use of whole bunches in Syrah.
Sourced from two blocks planted 1981 and 1990 in north south row orientation facing east through south. Less exposed sites give the wine greater detail. Pale straw with hints of green. Subtle Sauvignon fruit, quite expressive and minerally. Creamy and elegant. Fine, slate like flavours with good length and texture. Aromas of red currant, cherry and raspberry with subtle spice and some forest floor. A detailed 'Old World Style’ Syrah that will reward mid to long term cellaring under favourable conditions. Hand-picked fruit was sourced from original 1971 plantings. |
