Vintage Conditions
The 2009 – 2010 growing season saw our earliest budburst for sometime. Timely rainfall received in early summer gave the vineyard some relief from a dry winter & spring. Conditions for ripening of Pinot Noir were ideal with warm days & cool nights. Fruit was picked in optimal condition.
Winemaking
Fruit parcels are selected and picked to maximise fruit flavour. The fruit is both hand and machine harvested with a small percentage of the hand harvested used for whole bunch inclusion. A combination of winemaking techniques are used to produce a final blend with complexity and balance. These include cold maceration prior to fermentation, inclusion of whole bunches and warm fermentation 30˚C to 32˚C. The components remain separate until final blending. Minimal handling and filtration is adopted to preserve fruit flavour.

"Made with fruit from the Yarra and King Valleys, this Australian pinot is good value for what it is: rounded, lots of strawberry and cherry fruit, chewy tannins."

New World take on Burgundian values - medium bodied with lots of juicy, cherry flavours without being Aussie "in-your-face". A good wine for a roast grouse or quail.

"Perpetually discounted, this is the most beguiling and varietal of the bargain Pinot Noir selection. Perfumed violets, rose petals and red cherries with properly structured tannins."

"When Windy Peak pinot noir is on song it’s a candidate for The Perfect Light-Red Wine. This is a good Windy Peak pinot. It’s not profound and I wouldn’t really expect it to age, but as a young red quaffer it’s delicious. And velvety. And has a surprising amount of flavour persistence. It tastes of dry, bitter herbs and fleshy strawberries, red cherries and pine. It may even hold a bit of sappy, twiggy character too. It flows through the mouth nicely and has a chewy, textural element to the finish. Tremendously quaffable."

"Pale ruby-purple in color, the 2010 Windy Peak Pinot Noir has a ripe red cherry and pomegranate nose with hints of cinnamon and violets. Medium bodied with a low to medium level of grainy tannins and good backbone of high acid, it has plenty of straightforward red berry flavor and a long finish. This is a well made Pinot at a bargain price. Consider drinking it now through 2013."
