Sacred Hill Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2011

Region
95% Riverina, 5% Yarra Valley.

Appearance
Silver straw with green edges.

Bouquet
Clean citrus with herbaceous hints.

Palate
Upfront is a zesty palate of lime and lemon which rounds slightly to passionfruit and gooseberry notes on the lengthy finish.

Vintage Conditions
2011 was a very difficult vintage with some of the largest rainfalls recorded in a growing season. However, the summer ripening period was cooler because of this rainfall. This led to long ripening periods and great flavour and acid balance, rarely seen in the Riverina region.

Winemaking
Select Semillon vineyards from the Riverina are chosen for their fresh citrus notes and combined with Sauvignon Blanc that shows grapefruit and fresh cut grass. Grapes were pressed quickly and cold settled to produce very clean juice for a cool flavour-retaining ferment in stainless steel. Yeasts used were T306 (sem) and VIN7 (sauvy) which aid in varietal expression.

"This wine punches well above it's price. It's got lemon and citrus and a clean finish."

, Cairns Post, February 2012

"Looking for the perfect Christmas party wine? Look no further. This is a crisp, fresh and easy-to-drink wine at a bargain price and one that made James Halliday's Top 100 to boot. No one can complain about the value here. This is an attractive young blend of semillon and sauvignon blanc, rather drier than most whites in this price bracket, with citrus, stone fruit and grassy flavours and some refreshing acidity. A wine for quaffing rather than analysing. It would be good with seafood dishes, summer salads or spicy Thai dishes."

Winsor Dobbin, The Sunday Examiner Magazine, December 2011

90 Points
"The isolation of a naturally occuring yeast that intensifies the aroma and flavour of sauvignon blanc is widely used here and abroad, but has been of particular value for warm regions. Pale straw-green; the bouquet is expressive, with some lemon blossom, the palate with more intensity than others in this price bracket, with citrus and gooseberry fruit, and a clean finish."

James Halliday, The Weekend Australian Magazine, November 2011

8/10
Discernibly above average
"There are some wines out there which are just punching well above their weight and this is one of them. Let’s face it, this is a $5 bottle of wine – you pay more for a bottle of water these days. And yet it drinks like a much more
expensive wine. It has lovely, lemony, citrus flavours and a fresh, crisp finish which makes it an extremely drinkable wine and an absolute hit for the bargain hunters. Goes well with seafood and salad."
