Growing up in an Italian family didn't seem a big deal when I was a child,
but my brothers and I probably appreciate the experience more now than we did when we were younger.

Because our parents were born in Australia (all four grandparents having migrated from Italy), we were very Australian in our upbringing, except in a couple of areas – the food we ate and the celebrations we shared.

Eighty years ago, my Grandfather's dream was to make wine a part of everyday life , affordable and enjoyable to a wide cross section of people.  If he were alive today, he would be quietly chuffed at the thought of so many people drinking wine as it should be enjoyed.......with good food, with family and with friends.

At De Bortoli Yarra Valley, this philosophy of shared pleasures has been developed around a world class vineyard & winery producing fine wines that reflect a 'sense of place' and the family's belief that great wines begin first and foremost in the vineyard.  This thinking is carried through to the kitchen of our restaurant, where our aim is to showcase the best of the region's produce matched to our estate grown wines.

We also have a wonderful cheese maturing room where the best of the worlds cheeses are nurtured by affineur and well known cheese maker Richard Thomas until they reach perfect ripeness and are ready to be enjoyed with just the right wines.
