De Bortoli Wines Pty Limited ... Australian Winemakers Since 1928

Rob Glastonbury

Operations Manager Bilbul

Rob Glastonbury is Operations Manager for De Bortoli Wines, based at the Bilbul winery responsible for overseeing all winemaking, production and packaging as well as the William Bull Brewery project.

Rob has a Degree in Wine Science, an Associate Diploma in Wine Marketing from Roseworthy and an enormous amount of experience in both the wine and brewing industries.

With several vintages under his belt including several years at Rosemount, Rob made the switch to brewing at Carlton United Brewers where he worked in project management and many other facets of the business.

When Fosters purchased their wine businesses, Rob moved back to his first love working in the wine division at Beringer Blass as Wine Production Manager.

Taking on the position at De Bortoli Wines, Rob's goal was to add value from the grape to glass in the production process for the company.

Rob has also worked closely with Managing Director Darren De Bortoli executing a detailed action plan that is being implemented at the winery site and vineyards which involves a raft of environmental initiatives and management ideas.

The initiatives go beyond regulatory requirements and include cooperative programmes with national and local wine industry bodies incorporating many of the company's own ideas. These address the environmental impacts of grape growing, winemaking, packaging and transport activities, embracing issues of water management, waste control, greenhouse gas emissions, and flora and fauna conservation. De Bortoli Wines was a driving force behind the recently adopted Riverina Winemaker's Association's Environment Policy. The De Bortoli Bilbul winery  is also a trial site for the Australian Wine Industry Stewardship Programme aimed at improving environmental performance across the entire industry.
